Sunday April 30th | In this one hour lecture we are progressing to the MO-Diagrams of triatomic molecules such as carbenes (e.g., CH2) and water. We will discover the origin of the the two different carbenes (Fischer & Schrock) by looking at their MO diagrams and learn why at least spectroscopically the two lone-pairs on water are not equivalent. We will use the common method of inspection (visualization) to determine the symmetry of the involved orbitals, but soon we will need to use the method of symmetry adapted linear combinations in order to determine the next set of MO-diagrams.
