May 2nd 2022 | In this lecture we looked at the electron count of the ligand classes that were previously discussed in class. We looked at different nitrogen, phosphorous and carbon based ligands, such as alkylidynes, alkylidenes, alkyls, and carbides. Once we understood the electron count as ligands, using the covalent model, we utilized this knowledge to determine the oxidation state and electron count of a variety of metal complexes. Important herein was to take into account the geometry and symmetry of the metal center.
